RiscBBS User Editor sysop's guide.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Loading.
To load the RiscBBS user-editor, double-click on its icon in a filer.
It will immediately pop up a window in which you can edit the various items
in any user's record.
Editing.
Normally, there will be 'New User' as username for the first (0-th) record.
Its password should be 'blank' (ie. a null-string) after clicking on the
Reveal icon! This 0-th record (user 'New User') is taken as the default for
every new user that logs on to the system.
It should be very easy for any sysop to use the editor, as nearly every
record-item has a trivial meaning...
Username : The name of the user (any number of lowercase words with
uppercase capital, separated by a space). Eg. 'Bilbo Baggins'.
Password : The user's password (up to 9 characters long, case insensitive).
Userkeys : Up to 47 characters on which's presence/absence RiscBBS may
be configured to act.
Level : Level of the user (the lower this number, the less access the
user may have to the system).
Lines : Number of lines on the user's remote terminal (asked for with
1st logon).
Daytime : Number of minutes the user may be online daily.
Today : Today's number of minutes the user was online (exclusive the
time of a possible current logon). Updated everytime the user
logs off!
Calls : Number of calls the user has made to the system.
Download : Number of Kb the user has already downloaded from the system.
Upload : Number of Kb the user has already uploaded to the system.
D/U Ratio : Factors that set the ratio which limits the download/upload
amount in Kb.
Eg. If a user has D/U Ratio set to 5:1, he is allowed to
download 5 times as much as he has uploaded.
ANSI : User's ANSI graphics flag. If set, the system will/may send ANSI
escape sequences for setting colours, cursor positioning etc...
More? : User's More? prompts flag. If set, the system will pause each
time his set number of lines has scrolled past.
Deleted : Marks whether the user's record may be overwritten (deleted) the
next time a new user logs on.
Action icons:
Update : Updates (writes) the current user's record to the system user-
file.
Find : Tries to find the record of the user who's name is entered in
the Username icon.
Read ï N è : Reads the (next/previous) record of which the number is inside
the record-number icon.
Creating a new user.
To create a new user with the user-editor, go to the last record in the
user-file, click on ï once and just enter his details into the icons...
afterwards, click on the Update icon!
You can also re-edit a still existing 'deleted' user, but don't forget to
unset the Deleted option before clicking on the Update icon!
Quitting.
The RiscBBS user-editor may be quit by clicking on its window close icon (ä),
or by selecting the 'Quit' option from its main menu.
Hotlink with RiscBBS server.
Note that the RiscBBS server and RiscBBS user-editor are 'hot-linked', this
means that when any changes to the user-file are updated by one of the
programs, the other one will immediately re-read the updated user-record if
necessary!
